Mine Spec Vehicle Hire
Long-term dry hire of mine spec utes and site vehicles, fitted out and delivered ready for induction on mining, gas, infrastructure and construction projects.
What does mine spec actually mean?
A mine spec vehicle is a standard 4x4 that has been modified so it can be inducted onto a mine site or a gas project. The base vehicle is the same one you would see anywhere. What makes it mine spec is the safety fitout bolted to it and the paperwork that goes with it, because site access is refused without both.
A typical Giidjaa fitout covers the following:
- Bullbar and driving lights
- ROPS (rollover protection)
- Amber rotating beacon
- UHF radio
- High-visibility reflective striping
- Wheel chocks
- Fire extinguisher and first-aid kit
- Battery isolator
No two sites ask for exactly the same list. Some want extra lighting, some want particular striping, some want equipment stowed a certain way. We fit each vehicle to the access standard of the site it is going to, rather than to a single generic build. Our fleet also covers infrastructure surface spec, underground mining and underground infrastructure spec, and Queensland Safety Together requirements. There is more detail in our guide to what mine spec requires.
What vehicles are available?
The core mine spec fleet is dual cab 4x4 utes. Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series for the hardest ground and the longest days. Toyota Hilux in Workmate, SR and SR5 grades, which covers everything from a plain work truck to a supervisor vehicle. Ford Ranger in XL and XLT, with the XLT stepping up the cabin for project managers and leads.
Alongside the utes we hire crew transport, including HiAce and Transit vans and Coaster buses, plus generators, lighting towers, telehandlers, forklifts, scissor lifts and boom lifts. If you are weighing up which ute suits the crew, read how to choose a site vehicle or go straight to the ute range.

Specialist utes for specific site roles
Beyond the standard site ute, vehicles can be fitted for the specific role they will fill on your project. Fitter trucks with service bodies and tray storage for maintenance crews. Fire response utes carrying slip-on firefighting units. Dangerous goods and explosive transport configurations for shotfiring crews, and flat bed or tray-back builds where the load matters more than the cab.
These builds are quoted per vehicle against your site's access standard, the role and the hire term, the same way as our standard fitouts. Tell us what the vehicle has to do on site and we will come back with a configuration and a rate.
- Fitter truck hire for field maintenance crews, with service body and tray storage
- Specialist builds including fire response and dangerous goods configurations
- Single cab and flatbed hire where the load matters more than the cab
- Mine spec fitouts for how vehicles are built to your site access standard
Can mine spec vehicles be hired long term?
Yes, and long term is the only way we hire. Giidjaa Hire is a long-term dry hire business rather than a day-rate counter, with a minimum hire term of three months, and hires are normally written to the length of the project. That suits a fleet that belongs to a site for the duration of the work instead of being booked and returned week by week, and it means the commercial terms are settled once rather than renegotiated every time the program moves.
Where a vehicle is likely to stay with the work permanently, hire-to-buy is available on selected vehicles and plant as an alternative to leasing. Servicing and registration are managed across the hire either way, and one account covers vehicles, plant and access equipment.
Which regions and sites do you service?
Our depot is in Geebung in Brisbane, which covers South East Queensland and reaches out to regional Queensland, including the Surat Basin gas project areas around Wellcamp, Dalby, Chinchilla, Miles, Roma and Wallumbilla. In New South Wales we supply Sydney and regional areas including the central west. In Western Australia our newest operation is servicing Perth and surrounds.
Vehicles are on hire with contractors including JTMEC, MPC Kinetic, SRG Global, Hawthorne Civil, ADCO, Bouygues Construction and Mandana, across gas, tunnelling, electrical infrastructure, civil construction and renewables. City by city detail is on our Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sydney and Perth pages.

How does delivery work?
Tell us the site, the access standard and the term, and we come back with what we can supply and when. The vehicle is then fitted out, stickered and delivered to you ready for induction, so the first thing your crew does with it is drive it, not spend a week getting it compliant.
Hire is long-term dry hire to business clients, with hire-to-buy available on selected vehicles and plant. Servicing and rego are managed for you across the hire, and one account covers vehicles, plant and access equipment.
